“Air circus”- a very serious thing On 2007 February 23-24 days the winter aviation feast “Air Circus” took place in Trakai and it was shown by 106 world televisions! A record? Yes, and quite a huge one! 24 hot air balloon teams from Latvia, Poland, Germany, Ukraine and Lithuania gathered to compete with each other and to win the KIA PICANTO keys. Well, nobody managed to get the keys, but the winners were clear: I place went to Rimas Kostiuskevicius, II- to Robertas Komza and III place went to Jerzy Czerniavski. During the competition of the hot air balloons Lithuania’s open snowmobile and quadri-cycle championships took place on the ground. Other ground activities included the 6th world’s bio-toilet slalom, iron curling, races with sledges for 5 people, “tube-ball” and other alternative sport competitions. While the song “Yellow submarine” (by “The Beatles”) was playing, the first testing of the submarine on the Galves Lake took place. Thousands of people were not scared of the freezing cold (minus 26 degrees of Celsius)!
On 2008 March 1-2 days this event will be held again. New activities will include bombarding from hang-gliders, white bear “hunt” from hot air balloon, ice-fishing feast. There will also be a big warm pavilion, kinetic fireworks and the record-braking grill train, were spectators will be able to grill their food.
